Daffodil ~ Basic Parts

This is a project in which the youngsters can show how well they’re learning the English names for the basic parts / structures of this iconic spring-flowering plant.  They can also practice their fine motor skills by coloring the illustrations with watercolor paints, colored pencils, or crayons.

Our 4th through 6th grade students usually plant daffodil bulbs in the fall. Then in the spring they will do observational drawings or paintings of the resulting blooms and elegant leaves.  Since our fifth graders study plant form and function as part of their science lessons, I typically ask them to “show what they know” by completing this particular identification activity at the beginning of their spring art projects.
