Here’s a project that links children’s knowledge of strawberry plants to their studies of basic botany, particularly the vocabulary of form and function.
After observations and discussions of strawberry plants in the school garden (or strawberry plants brought from a nursery), students can work individually or as teams adding the appropriate labels to this drawing. The drawing can also be colored using media such as crayons, colored pencils, or Prang watercolors and good quality brushes.
If possible, try to include a taste testing of organic strawberries at some point in this process. This will make the learning even more powerful, meaningful and delicious!
