These coloring pages were designed for young people learning about organic gardening and farming, They were also envisioned as pleasant, educational coloring pages that organic growers could offer as little gifts / lagniappe to families who were stopping by to purchase their food at Farmers Markets, Farm Stands, or CSAs. In particular, the “Why Buy Organically Grown Local Products?” coloring page offers children (and adults! a cheerful visual complement to discussions about this essential kind of farming and eating.
I strongly believe that food systems based upon small-scale, relocalized, diversified, organic gardening, farming, and eating offer truly sustainable, healthy pathways for meeting human’s needs. They are an agroecological and historically-grounded alternative to industrialized, petrochemical farming. Such localized, diversified, organic food production allows communities to restore cultural, political, and food sovereignty, provides dignified, creative, socially beneficial work for many, supports biodiversity, and helps regenerate the vitality of the Earth’s soils, waters, and atmosphere / climate. All this happens even as relocalized organic growing supplies people with delicious, nutrient dense, pesticide-free nutrition!
The coloring pages listed here were available for a number of years on the Northeast Organic Farming Association of NH / NOFA-NH’s website. I am grateful to this organization for encouraging me to create these pages for publication in their newsletters in the early 2010’s. At the top of this page you’ll see a screenshot of the 9 individual pages as they appeared on the NOFA-NH website until that website’s most recent redesign.
